What is the City sales tax rate?

As of January 1, 2017, the Wheat Ridge sales and use tax rate is 3.5%. The total rate to pay at a local business is 8.0%. Food for home consumption is exempt from Colorado and districts' taxes so should be taxed at 4.0%.

Wheat Ridge Adopts Standardized Definitions

On April 10th the Wheat Ridge City Council adopted Ordinance 1620 to replace most of the City’s current tax code definitions with standardized versions that are up for consideration by most home-rule cities in Colorado.

The standardized definitions were developed by municipal tax professionals as part of a sales tax simplification effort, at the request of the Colorado General Assembly and the business community.

Pro-Rated Liquor Occupation Tax Begins in 2018

Beginning with the 2018 licensing year, an amendment to section 11-68 of the City Code of Laws allows pro-ration of the liquor occupation tax.

2E Sales and Use Tax Rate Increase Ordinance

In 2016, Wheat Ridge voters approved a half-percent sales and use tax rate increase to 3.5% for 12 years beginning January 1, 2017 for infrastructure improvements. The City Council adopted Ordinance 1614 formalizing the rate at 3.5% on February 27, 2017.
