The Kite Flite Fest and Child Safety Fair return again this year at Anderson Park 44th and Field St. on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
In addition to kite flying, kids crafts, the mini train, Hamster balls, music and food vendors, the Wheat Ridge Police Department (WRPD) will be hosting the Child’s Safety Fair portion of the event.
Wheat Ridge officers will be working with the Arvada Fire Department to conduct drive-up car seat safety inspections, and provide free car seats (while supplies last). WRPD will also sponsor a caricature artist, a balloon artist, face painting, Chees-O the mascot and a bike safety rodeo (bikes provided if needed). Crime prevention information will be available in both English and Spanish. Lutheran Medical Center will give away free bike helmets on a first-come, first-served basis. A drawing will be held at 3:30 p.m. for two children’s bikes, donated by Wheat Ridge Walmart. Drawings will also be held throughout the day for kites and other prizes. WRPD officers will show off their DJ skills and provide music for the event. Flight for Life® Colorado is scheduled to land a helicopter in the baseball diamond between noon and 2 p.m. and they invite participants to stop by for a “tour.” Their availability will depend on weather conditions and emergency calls.
Attendees are encouraged to park in the neighborhood and walk or ride a bike to the event. Attendees may bring a kite or purchase one of the affordable kites on sale at the event.
