The Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with Jefferson County Public Health, Localworks, and Lutheran Medical Center to celebrate National Park Rx Day. This free community event features a walk with a registered dietician, lawn games and giveaways.
Parks and recreation play a significant role in promoting health and preventing disease. Park prescriptions is a concept that links the healthcare system to local parks and recreation agencies to encourage activity as a means to improve health. Members of the medical community prescribe parks, access to nature and recreational activities to patients to help them meet their healthcare goals. National Park Rx Day is an opportunity for people to see Park Prescriptions in action.
